COMMUNITY volunteer Max Aguon is disappointed with the person or persons who dumped containers filled with used cooking oil in the Sugar Dock beach area.

“I was shocked to see those containers in a public place,” Aguon added.

He said he found the 25 containers filled with used cooking oil beside a barbecue stand at one of the pavilions on the beach.

“The culprit or culprits probably dumped the used oil on Friday night or early Saturday morning,” he said, adding that he immediately transported the containers to the transfer station in Lower Base.

It was his first time to find containers of used cooking oil at Sugar Dock, he said, adding: “Those containers of used oil are probably from a restaurant.”

Aguon said it is unfortunate that “some people don’t realize how harmful used oil is to the environment.”

He is again urging the Department of Public Safety to regularly patrol the Sugar Dock area in Susupe to deter people from littering or dumping their trash on the beach.
