ACCORDING to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s director of nursing Leticia Reyes there’s no getting around the need for an extension of the federal contract worker program.
Reyes advised the board of trustees at last Thursday’s meeting of the importance of non-local employees in staffing the hospital.
“It would be impossible to replace all non-residents by 2014 who make up 75 percent of CHC’s nursing staff,” she said.
Presently, the nursing staff of 166 includes 125 CWs.
Reyes reported progress in hiring but pointed out an adequate nursing staff would be 185 to 190.
