Burglary at an apartment unit in Garapan

(DPS) — On Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at about 8:57 p.m., the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a burglary incident at an apartment unit in Garapan, Saipan. Police were dispatched to the scene.

At about 9:03 p.m., police arrived on scene and met with the caller who lives in the neighboring unit. The caller told officers that the neighbors unit looked to be burglarized as the front door was left open with items and clothing scattered throughout the room. Shortly after meeting with the caller, the tenant of the burglarized unit met with officers and confirmed that their apartment unit was burglarized. The victim also mentioned to officers that this was the second time this had happened to their unit. After the first incident the tenant put up burglar bars around the windows, but forgot to secure the bathroom window before leaving to work.

No items were reported missing to police yet, as an inventory of the apartment had yet to be done.

The Department of Public Safety would like to remind the public to be diligent when purchasing electronics or other valuables from unknown individuals.
