CHRISTOPHER Santos Bigley was arrested on Jan. 30, 2020 for strangling and putting his pregnant wife in a headlock at their home in Achugao, police said.

Bigley, 38, denied the allegations. On Friday, he appeared for a bail hearing before Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo in the custody of the Department of corrections.

Judge Govendo imposed a $25,000 cash bail on Bigley who was charged with strangulation, assault and battery, assault, and disturbing the peace.

His preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 7, 2020 at 10 a.m.

Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as Bigley’s counsel while Assistant Attorney General Samantha Vickery appeared for the government.

In her probable cause declaration, Police Detective Lupe Ann C. Lizama stated that the victim walked into the front desk of the Department of Public Safety at noon on Thursday to file a domestic violence complaint against Bigley.

The wife alleged that the assault on her was done in front of their infant child, and it happened when she came home on Wednesday past 11 p.m.

The victim said Bigley asked her why she was late. She told Bigley she was too tired and that if she could not sleep in their house she would just leave.

As she was going out the door with her belongings, she said Bigley pulled the bag from her shoulder and pulled her, causing her to fall to the ground.

She said Bigley then pulled her back into the house, choked her, and slammed her to the wall where he threatened to kill her.

She said Bigley was so strong that when he choked her she could not breathe, so she just prayed he would not kill her.

When she told Bigley that he was hurting her, he told her, “I don’t care.”

When she felt like throwing up she said she got up, but he came from behind her and he put his arm around her neck in a headlock.

She said Bigley shouted at their baby who was crying because he saw what happened. He told the child to shut up or he would hurt him too, she added.

She said she tried to calm the baby so it would go back to sleep,

Bigley knows she’s two months pregnant, but it’s not the first time he has hurt her, the wife told the police.

Bigley was arrested at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. in Lower Base where he was working on Thursday afternoon.

At the hospital, after a medical examination, it was confirmed that the wife was seven weeks pregnant. A doctor also noted abrasions on her left and right arms.
