THE Kagman Community Center, which was shut down five years ago, will be operational again in April, Division of Youth Services Director Vivian Sablan said.

The newly renovated center was supposed to reopen in February, “but because of the storms that we had, it pushed back the contractor a little bit.”

DYS held its Parent Leadership Month proclamation signing ceremony at the center on Friday.

Kagman Community Center, which has been closed for five years now, will reopen in April.

Among the new features of the facility are a classroom, a shower room, and a stage with a dressing room at the back.

“Schools can come here and do their programs here,” Sablan said. “The facility will be available for big events.”

She noted that the center can also be a typhoon shelter.

When the center is reopened in April, Sablan said DYS will be able to “deliver our programs in a setting that is safe and conducive to community members.”

Two years ago, DYS submitted a Community Development Block Grant application through the Northern Marianas Housing Corp.

“We were approved for about $400,000 [for the repair of the center], the construction of a new wing, repainting, and fixing other things at the center,” Sablan said.
