(CNMI Judiciary) — On Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, the Supreme Court wing of the Guma’ Hustisia will open during regular business hours. In addition to alternate site courtrooms at the Marianas Business Plaza and the District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands, the Supreme Court courtroom will now be available for both trial and appellate court sessions.

The partial occupancy for the areas in the Supreme Court was made possible through the completion of several projects — carpet removal and related mold remediation, procurement and installation of temporary air conditioning systems, and the atrium skylight replacement with concrete caps.

The other areas of the Guma’ Hustisia’ will remain closed until further notice. The closed areas include the Superior Court courtrooms and chambers on the second floor and the divisions and offices on the first floor. Ongoing projects impacting these areas are the remaining mold remediation and procurement and installation of a permanent air-conditioning system.

The judiciary continues to coordinate efforts with the secretary of Finance and the Capital Improvement Projects Office for the completion of project scopes. Additionally, recovery and repair projects for damage from Super Typhoon Yutu to other interior and exterior areas of the Guma’ Hustisia are ongoing and continue to be coordinated with the Public Assistance Office of the Office of the Governor. The judiciary is awaiting FEMA funding. It is anticipated that full occupancy of the Guma’ Hustisia may be realized by the end of 2020.
