THE government-owned Garapan Public Market at the fishing base reopened on March 30, its manager Leroy Pangelinan said.

It is now open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and closed on Sundays, she added.

Pangelinan, who operates the market with cashier Paula Teregeyo, said customers must observe social distancing while in the store. “We put markers so customers can maintain a six-foot distance,” he added.

In the past week, he said they had to close down the market following the closure of some of its big clients such as hotels.

Starting Monday, the market was again selling fruits and vegetables from local farmers on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.

Among the vegetables available at the market are cabbage, bitter melon, taro, cucumber, sweet potato, local ginger, and pumpkin.

“There’s a high demand for turmeric, but we’ve run out of it,” he said, adding that the market had eggplants yesterday, Thursday.
