A VEHICLE caught on fire after it slammed into a concrete pole on Sunday evening, Variety learned.

A source who declined to be identified said the driver was an off-duty police officer who was arrested for driving under the influence.

But this was neither confirmed nor denied by Department of Public Safety spokesman Dre Pangelinan.

For its part, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services stated that it received a call about a reported vehicle fire in Fina Sisu on Sunday, May 3, at 11:39 p.m.

According to DFEMS, at 11:40 p.m., Rescue-1 and Medic-1 from the Susupe Fire Station and Engine-2 from the Garapan Fire Station were dispatched to the location. The first units arrived on scene at 11:43 p.m.

The fire was controlled at 12:10 a.m., DFEMS said, adding that no reported injury and no treatments were provided at the scene for medical complaints in relation to the fire.

DFEMS said its arson and fire investigation unit found that the fire originated from the engine after the car crashed into the concrete pole.

DFEMS classified the incident as an accidental fire and was therefore closed.

DFEMS did not provide any information about the driver of the vehicle.
