TINIAN Mayor Edwin Aldan on Monday led the Memorial Day commemoration at the veterans memorial park on the  island.

“We honor the few who were so willing to give of themselves to defend our…nation and most especially our islands,” he said.

He thanked all those who are serving, have served, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and their families for allowing the people of the U.S. and its territories to continue to enjoy the freedom that they have today.

“Memorial Day is a time for us to take a moment to say thank you to our fallen heroes and their families, and to show them that we remember all of our heroes who never left the battlefields,” the mayor said.

“We hold up our fallen heroes in our communities and honor their memories.    We reflect on their service and sacrifice.    We live in gratitude each and every day for the precious gift that they have given to us: the luxury and freedom to enjoy the pleasures that we [have] every day,” he added.

Joining Aldan at the memorial park were members of the Tinian Legislative Delegation, the Tinian Municipal Council, resident directors, and island residents.

Taps was played during the wreath-laying ceremony.
