ROTARIANS and other volunteers distributed 180 care packages Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Antonio M. Borja Amphitheater on Tinian, Rotary Club of Saipan president Sonya Dancoe said.

Some of the care packages were delivered to the homes of elderly recipients, she added.

“I am humbled by the dedication of our members, grateful for the valuable contributions of various donors and individual volunteers, deeply touched by the heartwarming response of the people of Tinian,” Dancoe said as she expressed appreciation to the Tinian International Women's Association for its hard work and collaboration.

“It was a very productive and smooth event,” she added. “It was wonderful to see many individuals, including Rotaract members and the youth, stepping up to help support our cause.”

In an interview, Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan said the people of the island were “very thankful” to the club for its generosity.

He said the assistance of the Rotary to the people, particularly those who were terminated or furloughed from their jobs, was commendable.

Dancoe said they wanted to reach out to individuals, especially the elderly, who need help the most during the pandemic.

Saipan Rotarians were on Tinian recently to distribute care packages to community members.

She said they were able to visit and personally deliver bags of rice to homebound senior citizens.

“The surprise and smiles on their faces reassure all of us in the Rotary Club of Saipan that our work for the community matters,” Dancoe said.

“It was a very touching and wonderful experience for all and our club will continue to do good in our community,” she said, as she thanked everyone for ensuring the success of the program.

She said she and the other Rotarians were also able to enjoy the beauty of Tinian at the end of their mission.

Dancoe thanked the following donors: Micronesian Air Cargo Services Saipan, Tandem Skydive Saipan, D&Q Distributors, Micronesian Brokers, Payless Super Fresh and Truckload Store, Western Sales Trading, Rotarian Hiroko Stewart, Rotarian past president Marcia Ayuyu, Rotarian Justice Perry B.
