THE Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance has received 903 applications for the fall 2020 semester, SHEFA administrator Merissa Rasa said.

Fourteen of the applications have been denied because the applicants did not maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average; they have repeated a course that does not count toward full-time enrollment; or they have already met the maximum award duration.

As of reporting, Rasa said they have approved 223 applications, and 666 are still pending.

Of the total 903 applicants, 262 are new; 564, ongoing; and 77 are returning applicants.

Rasa said  555 will pursue their studies in the CNMI, 272 want to study abroad, while 76 have enrolled in online studies.

She said 293 are freshmen; 257, sophomores; 204, juniors; 87, seniors; 39 are pursuing graduate or master’s degrees; and 23 are enrolled in graduate, advanced/doctorate or juris doctorate programs.

Rasa said 132 of the applicants graduated from high school this year.
