Mario Espeleta tops Skymark Night Contest

MARIO K. Espeleta’s replica of a Skymark airplane made of recycled materials won the Skymark Night Contest on Sunday, besting 16 other entries.

Espeleta received $500 cash prize and other giveaways from the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Second prize went to Vladimir S. Palma who received $300 cash prize and giveaways while Kenjirho Matias, who placed third, received $100 cash and giveaways.

The other contestants were Conall Hartig; Alana Lu Cruz; Prashib Pandey; the team of Taiga Scoggins, Celis Justin, Cruz Dillan, and Toryara Quitano; Son Yujeong; Evan Cabrera; Mercedez Cabrera; Kate Megan Garcia; Mark Abugar; Lars Wolf; the team of Dinno Torres, Aaron Diaz, Jeremiah Cruz, and Nathan Villagomez; Jack Vincent Villagomez; and Jeewoo Son.

MVA Managing Director Priscilla Iakopo said for the third Saturday night of this year’s weekly Christmas in the Marianas event, MVA partnered with Skymark Airlines and PDM Promoters.

“It’s a great turnout,” she said as she thanked community members, tourists, performers, and vendors who joined the celebration at the Paseo De Marianas.

The performers included the Saipan Awaodori Team, Man Atigo-Domatsuri Warriors, Philippine Cultural and Contemporary Dancers, Saipan Music and Dance Studio, and Studio 29:11.

In the raffle drawing, the winners of the Tokyo-Saipan round-trip tickets for two from Skymark Airlines were Jay Muna and Masani Morishita.
