(Press Release) — On Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, the Miss Northern Marianas Earth held its coronation night, live on Facebook, for  the new Miss NMI Earth 2020 in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom.

There were five candidates this year and among them was Julia Biton, candidate #3, of Tinian.

“I was pretty nervous to be on stage that night because it was coronation night, and of course being the only candidate representing the island of Tinian, I wanted to be crowned Miss NMI Earth 2020, as anyone else would have wanted,” Julia says.

Before the coronation was the presentation of special awards. Out of nine awards, Julia managed to take home two, the Photogenic Award and the People’s Choice Award. After last year’s titleholder, Leisha Deleon Guerrero, gave her farewell speech and final walk, the winner of the 2020 pageant was announced.

Julia was among the top two and was crowned the Miss Northern Marianas Air 2020 while Maria Terlaje was named this year’s Miss Northern Marianas Earth.

“I did not get the title,” Julia said, “but I am happy for Maria and for the other girls, as well. I am also so happy and so thankful for what I achieved and the experience I went through, especially being from the island of Tinian.”

Julia would like to thank everyone who helped her through her journey in this year’s pageant and for all the support from her family and friends, Tinian Island Store, Long Feng market, her Saipan coach Joel Vallega, her Tinian coach Joey Lenteja, Venus Grenio, Ms. Lizabeth Hofschneider and Mr. Dave Perzinski, JC Café Restaurant, Mr. Karl Neighbors, Ms. Susan and Allen Perez, Ms. Frances and Joseph Santos, Mr. Patrick SanNicolas, Mr. Ruell Villacrusis of RNV Construction, Star Marianas Air, the Tinian Mayor’s Office, Ma’am Rosita and Honorable Edwin Aldan (Mayor of Tinian and Aguiguan), and most especially the whole island of Tinian.

“I am so thankful for everyone and all their support,” Julia said. “I had the whole island of Tinian along with my family and friends, near and far, beside me. I am really proud of myself and for representing my home island.”
