THE Blue Eagles continue to sit at the top of the food chain in the Open Division of the United Filipino Organization and IT&E Basketball League after outlasting Islander Rent A Car, 81-76, on Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada gym.

The Blue Eagles aimed for the win and it showed. Ashburn ignited the fire with a three-point shot while Schmidt took over with 12 points to give their team the lead.

The Islanders fought back with balanced play. Mintac sliced his way inside with his eurostep, leading the second canto with four points while Jandoc, Torres and Mangali supported with two points apiece. But even with Schmidt out of the picture, the Blue Eagles managed to stay afloat as De Guzman and Basa stepped up with three triples combined for a 41-30 Blue Eagles lead.

The Islanders, however, continued to keep up. The game became more intense as both teams exchanged shots. Viray picked up where he left off with five points, including an and-one, while Jandoc and Mintac supported with a couple of buckets. The Blue Eagles maintained the same production as Schmidt returned to the scene with an offensive and defensive display that included a handful of steals and nine points. De Guzman also prolonged his run with two triples alongside Basa and Demapan to hold the lead for the Blue Eagles.

Jandoc and Viray were the only players able to stay consistent in the final quarter, but it was not enough to match Schmidt and De Guzman’s output as they secured the win for the Blue Eagles, 81-76.

Blue Haus 106, Saipan Vegas 83

In the Masters Division, Blue Haus picked up its fourth consecutive win by trouncing Saipan Vegas.

It was in the second quarter when Blue Haus grasped the advantage thanks to Esdrelon’s range, sinking five three-pointers for a 48-41 spread.

Peredo later joined the onslaught as he took over the third canto with 16 points. Saipan Vegas’ Maplas and Usi penetrated inside but their team could not stop Blue Haus’ offensive spree. Blue Haus won, 106-83.
