SWEET Digs defeated the Itsy Bitsy Spikers to win the 2019 Agape Christmas Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the Agape Christian School Gym.

In the last game of the round-robin tournament, Sweet Digs captain Krystel Encinares sustained a minor injury on her knee as she tried to save the ball, and had to be brought to the hospital emergency room.

But despite losing their team captain, Sweet Digs still managed to defeat the Itsy Bitsy Spikers in the championship game.

In the semifinals, Iszel Esteves, Michelle Masga, and Cecille Guevarra led Sweet Digs in beating Sugar and Spice, 25-8, 25-17.

In the other semifinal game, the Itsy Bitsy Spikers’ Fatima Monterubio, Madelleen Narciso, and Soleil Lamar prevailed against Agape’s Jingle Balls Women, 25-9, 25-17.

In the finals, the Itsy Bitsy Spikers played aggressively in the first canto, but Sweet Digs’ defense was rock solid. Sweet Digs took the first set, 25-16.

In the second set, Itsy Bitsy Spikers’ Soleil Lamar, Madallen Narciso, and Hyejin Elliott finally found their rhythm, but Sweet Digs’ Tazha Deleon Guerrero, Michelle Masga, and Iszel Esteves fought harder to win the set and the championship, 26-24.

The members of the wining team received a $150 cash prize, gift certificates, medals, and a trophy.
