THE Table To Tasi Youth Fishing Club has given students opportunities to learn the value of sustainable living via fishing and the importance of the ocean environment.

Program participants have also participated in various fishing tournaments and were able to meet Deer Meat for Dinner's Rob Arrington.

During the club’s shallow bottom fishing activity on Saturday, members were asked by Variety about what they thought about the club.

Derik Reyes, a senior at Marianas High School, was among the 22 students who participated in the activity.

He said he joined the club “not only because I love fishing, but also to learn other people's techniques and apply them myself.”

Reyes said he would “love to join [the program] again if I could — the hands-on experience feels great.”

In March, he was recognized for winning the fishing derby hosted by Table To Tasi.

Jeneisha, another student from MHS, caught four fishes on Saturday and highly recommends the club to other students.

A third student also loved the experience of his first year with the club and will be joining again next year. He said he will also help the club by recruiting more students.

Students who, in the beginning, had little to no knowledge about fishing said they  appreciate the hands-on experience provided by the club.

A Kagman High School student said: “I joined because I wanted to try something new. It's been great. I got to do different things like joining a fishing tournament and go on a boat out to sea. I would love to join the group again.”

Table to Tasi vice president Wayne Pangelinan said they have officially established Table To Tasi Inc. which is now independent of the Saipan Fishermen's Association.
