THE winners of this year's Rotary Club of Saipan Goodwill Golf Tournament that was held  Saturday at  LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort were Jack San Nicolas, Ramon San Nicolas, Soon Ja and Chang Hee Yoo.

In the men’s division, the San Nicolas due ended with a net score of 70, thanks to their precision strokes with four birdies and no bogeys in the front nine to earn a gross of 32. Although they struggled during the back nine, committing a double bogey at one point, they managed to hold steady to finish strong with a score of 38 for a gross total of 70. With no handicap, they still came out on top with a net score of 70 to clinch the top spot in the double-peoria format, two-person scramble event.

For their part, Diego Benavente and Joji Taguchi gave a good fight and finished the front nine with a gross of 33 and even had a better output on the back nine with no bogeys for a score of 35 to notch a combined gross of 68.

However, Benavente and Taguchi had a handicap of -2.4 which meant that their final net score was 70.4, good enough for second place.

Taking third was the team of Freddie Cataluna and Joe "Kamikaze" Camacho who scored 34 and 32 for a total of 66. But with a handicap of 4.8, their actual net score was  70.8 which earned them third place.

In fourth place were Alex Tudela and Tony Benavente while father and son Ben Jones Sr. and Ben Jones Jr. finished fifth.

Clear winners

In the women's division, Chang Hee Yoo and Soon Ja Yoo were the clear winners.

With two birdies, they finished with a gross of 34 and only committed one bogey in the back nine for a score of 35. Their total gross was  69 while their handicap was -3.6 which gave them  a net score of 72.6.

The battle for second place was tight but the team of Sun Suk Kim and Seo Yeon Jeon prevailed with a net score of 73.4. Hyun Son and Yuko Togawa were close behind with 73.6.

Ma Ae Jeon and Sylvia Cai were fourth with a net score of 74.6 while Sherlyn Jones and Lorraine Babauta finished fifth with a net of 75.6.

Individual awards were also given out.

The Closest to the Pin Award for hole #3 was handed to Brian Camacho with a distance of 7'5"; Peter Tenorio for hole #7 with a distance of 2'1"; and Paul Kaipat for hole #13 with a distance of 3'5".

Harry Nakamura won the Longest Drive Award for hole #18.

The tournament will help the Rotary Club of Saipan raise funds for its community service projects and activities.
