Brilliant Star excels in elementary school cross country

BRILLIANT Star School  topped Heat#1 of the second meet of the 2020-2021 Public School System/Northern Marianas Athletics All School Cross Country elementary division on Friday at the CPA Airport Field.

Brilliant Star School students returned to the scene hungrier than ever with Akeen Edvalson completing the course in first place with a time of 00:08:01.

Although Saipan International School’s Landon Pudney, Suki Peng and Aubrey White claimed 3rd, 4th and 5th places,  Brilliant Star School’s Scarlett Burrell and LoVel Spaeth finished 8th and 9th. 

Moreover, their fellow Brilliant Star students Raeya Edvalson and Amara Acosta completed the run in 12th and 16th places to give their school the top spot in the team standings.

Finishing 14th, 15th and 17th were Saipan International School’s Nara Kim, William Hasselback and Theo Joab.

Saipan Community School took third place overall. Emma Sablan gave her school a good push by finishing 2nd with Lennox Sablan taking 7th place. Kastle Smith and Jeordan Buduan continued the steady pace in 10th and 11th places while Kaevene Pungalan finished 18th.

William S. Reyes Elementary School did not qualify for the team event because it didn’t have enough runners, but WSR’s Marq Hernandez, Mateo Almada, Alliyah Villacrusis, Elijah Carreon and Gabriel Oikang completed the course.

Heat#2

In Heat #2, Agape Christian School was the team to beat.

ACS’s Jessie Campbell clocked in first at 00:08:15 while school-mates Benjamin Cai and Daniel Huang finished 2nd and 4th. 

Scott Shi (7th), Alice Duan (9th) and Sujin Wang (10th) added  icing to the cake and gave ACS  the top spot.

Isla Montessori Saipan took second place overall. Isla’s Oliver Pauling was 3rd while Georgia Baetge, Katie Manglona, Addison Pauling, Cooper Fang and Jackson Koning crossed the finish line in 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th places.

Mount Carmel School's Chanseo "Stephen" Yeom, Chanwoong "Henry" Yeom, Franko Tudela, and Daniel Kang along with Kagman Elementary School's Teeta Welch also participated in the race.

Their schools, however, did not have enough runners to qualify for the team event.
