Motheread/Fatheread conducts certified teachers meeting and professional development on Rota

(Press Release) — The Northern Marianas Humanities Council’s Motheread/Fatheread CNMI, a grassroots family literacy program, conducted a certified teachers meeting and professional development on  Rota on Sept. 3, 2020.

The meeting was attended by certified Motheread/Fatheread teachers from the 2010, 2016 and 2019 cohorts.

Coordinator Beth Demapan, with the assistance of Celina Foreman, conducted the meeting which began with a meet and greet followed by the introduction of the guest presenters and trainers.

The special guests included Nicole Babauta, director of the Small Business Development Center; Augida Quitugua-Manglona;  Maryann Borja, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation director; Martin Naputi, vice president of Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library; and Erlinda C. Naputi, certified teacher and president of the Pacific Islands Association of Libraries, Archives and Museums.

Trainers were able to learn how to access and attend Zoom meetings, and conduct classes while at home. Motheread books were provided and a read -aloud was added, including a packet with activities for parents to work with.

A big shout out to the certified teachers who were able to attend the meeting: Laura Manglona, Bergitt Maratita, Vernon-Lee Inos Manglona, Ivan Mereb, Jr., Celina Foreman, Erlinda C. Naputi, and Beth Demapa.

Certified teachers are equipped with program information updates and opportunities to conduct sessions for their community.

Motheread/Fatheread CNMI was created in 1998 by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council to help families routinely use reading and storytelling as a medium for enhancing literacy in their homes.
