MAIA Pauline D. Reyes, a graduate of Grace Christian Academy on Saipan, is the author of a novel titled, “Daniel’s CD,” the Kindle version of which is now available on amazon.com

The daughter of former Rep. John S. Reyes and Leticia D. Reyes, Maia obtained her bachelor of arts degree in English from the  University of Guam in 2018.

According to amazon.com, “Daniel’s CD” is a “powerful story of drugs, poverty, and dysfunctional families.”

It is about “growing up in a fractured family in Guam” where the main protagonist, Veo Mafnas, “spends his adolescence struggling to maintain his relationship with his father and brothers. He knows that despite their difficulties and their mother’s absence, he has to be a good son and look out for his two younger brothers.”

When Veo “discovers his dad doing meth, he’s faced with an impossible choice. He knows that if he exposes his dad to the cops, he could lose him forever and tear their family apart. Grappling between his loyalty and fear for his father’s future, Veo knows it’s only a matter of time before his family crumbles from the inside out.”

Online reviewers praised the novel for its “creative storytelling,” saying it was a “wonderful and heartwarming story” and an “emotional read.”

Maia’s Amazon author page states that she is a “homesick Chamorro/Filipino who originated from the CNMI.” She has “an interest in writing that originated from a screenwriting class in college. Like many other millennials, she is still wondering what to do with her degree. But in the midst of all this confusion, she is reflective of this short thing called life that ultimately inspires her stories.”
