(MV) — Christmas cheer and gifts or donations will be awarded to a family in need in Saipan this holiday season.

“A Christmas Surprise on Saipan” aims to bring Christmas cheer, along with goods, services or monetary gifts, to a deserving family in Saipan. This initiative was created by construction and real estate development company Pacific Rim, in media partnership with KZMI 103.9FM and Marianas Variety.

Community members are encouraged to nominate other families they know of in the community who may have fallen on hard times due to illness, financial difficulties or other trying circumstances.

Anyone can nominate a family. However, program organizers ask that individuals do not submit their own family. The winning family must live on Saipan, but there are no restrictions on nationality, ethnicity, sex, family size, or other similar factors.

“We know 2020 has been a challenging year, and many families haven’t recovered from the devastation of recent typhoons,” said Keith Stewart, Pacific Rim president and founder of “A Christmas Surprise on Saipan.”

“We want to identify a family who has experienced hardship and could use some Christmas cheer during the holiday season,” Stewart said.

The winning family will receive a prize package catered to their specific needs based on what is determined from the nomination essay. Prizes may include, but are not guaranteed to include, gifts, equipment, monetary donations, food, sponsorships, and/or a wide variety of other items. They will also receive a special Christmas surprise by having their home decorated for the holiday season.

“This is really just an opportunity for us as an organization to help give back, but also to get the community and businesses involved to help our fellow neighbors who need assistance during a challenging time,” Stewart said.

The winning family will be chosen by an executive committee. Those submitting a nomination are encouraged to be detailed in their essay submission to help the committee understand the family’s hardship and need. The prize package will be awarded sometime before Christmas.

“Giving back to our community brings us so much joy, and we hope that through this initiative, we can really help change a family’s life for the better,” Stewart said. “Beyond helping the winning family, we hope that this initiative will unite our community even further around a shared cause and an opportunity to do something good.”

“A Christmas Surprise on Saipan” is accepting donations or sponsorship of the program from businesses and individuals. If interested in offering a donation, whether monetary or in-kind, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

“No donation is too small to help make a difference,” Stewart said. “Every dollar given to this initiative will go toward helping the winning family.”
