(Special Advertising Feature) — It is build your jewelry with the carver day at Marianas Creations this Saturday, April 17, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with local artist and carver Martin Camacho Castro Jr.
Customers will be able to choose from a variety of pendants in local designs such as åchu atupat (slingstone), hima (clam shell), haguit (fish hook), sinåhi, and more.
Once a customer chooses their design, Castro will customize it for a perfect, personalized fit. It will also be an open mic for anyone wanting to share their talent among our community.
Vocal and performance artists Candace “Primitiva” Muna and Eva “Chamorrita” Cruz will be performing.
In addition, Marianas Creations will have Happy Hour pricing the entire day on the 17th.
Martin Castro Jr. has been carving since he was 19 years old. He started learning carving skill through a fellow carver from the street market in Garapan.
Eventually, he became his apprentice and carved with him and learned how to carve a raw shell into beautiful finished products.
Martin went on and learned how to make bracelets, anklets, earrings, necklaces, wood story boards & other craft skills.
“Whenever I design my products I stick to my island roots. I believe every piece I create is an extension of who I am inside and out,” said Castro.
“The event is about focusing on introducing our artists who sell their products at Marianas Creations & giving them a platform to meet their customers & share their experiences of carving the products from start to finish,” said Elina Gharti Chhetri, owner of Marianas Creations. “We hope to continue such events in the future on a monthly basis, along with our First-Friday events, when things get back to normal,” she added.
