(Press Release) — More than 60 individuals received clothes and toys in the southern Philippines from Bayani or Heroes Association CNMI.

Bayani volunteers led by Teresita Mondido distributed the clothes to residents of Parasan, a remote village of Molave municipality, Zamboanga del Sur on the southern island of Mindanao.

Mondido said 40 individuals, mostly farmers, received the donations a week after Bayani volunteers visited the area to identify the most pressing needs of the villages.

“Most of the residents have only a few clothes in their closet. They would rather buy food than used clothes,” Mondido said. “They were very thankful for the assistance from the Bayani group.” In Parasan, more than 50 children also received assorted toys and children’s clothes.

For her part, Bayani volunteer Libeth Bagnol distributed clothes to residents of Bayabas, a village  of Aurora municipality, Zamboanga del Sur.

“Sharing is very important, especially to people who have nothing,” Bagnol said.

Mondido said they will also donate clothes to residents of the Manobo tribe in Kinawayan, Bayug in Zamboanga del Sur once the government’s Covid-19 travel restrictions are lifted.

“We are hoping to get there as soon as the situation gets back to normal,” she said.

In February, the Bayani Association distributed housing materials to members of the Badjao tribe in Bugo, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental which is also in Mindanao. In addition, the association constructed a concrete restroom and installed six solar streetlights in the Badjao settlement area, and distributed grocery items including hygiene products to some of the less fortunate residents of Bugo.

“We are so grateful to all the volunteers in the Philippines for initiating the distribution, namely: Mermen Montalbo, Jeremias Bagalanon, Mona Bagalanon Levita Bagnol, Teresita Mondido, Jameson Mondido, Suprino Roma, Lelivet Romarate, and Edna Todino,” Bayani president Annamae Adaza said.

She said the donations of clothes and toys would not have been possible without the help of the following donors: Rosemarie Guirit, Divine Sotto, Lorna Banayos, Estrella Gracia, Lorna Baro and Eden G. Soriano.
