DEPARTMENT of Public Safety Commissioner Robert Guerrero is on medical leave and will not be unable to attend the budget hearing Friday, June 11, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Donald Manglona said.

The budget hearing for DPS was held Tuesday, but Manglona wanted it to be continued today because the commissioner did not show up at the hearing.

Those who attended the budget hearing Tuesday on behalf of Guerrero were DPS Administrative Director Kaye Inos, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Director Juana Deleon Guerrero and human resources manager Esther Delos Reyes. They answered questions pertaining to, among other things, the current financial status of DPS, personnel and vehicles.

Inos told the committee that the commissioner left for Tinian Tuesday morning for a “pre-planned” meeting with the acting DPS resident director there.

In an interview, Manglona said the commissioner called him on Thursday to tell the lawmaker that he, Guerrero, was on medical leave.

The commissioner said he could attend a DPS budget hearing after a couple of weeks.
