GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres last week withdrew his nomination of former Department of Commerce Secretary Mark Rabauliman to serve on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors.

The governor nominated Rabauliman on July 14, 2021 to represent Saipan on the CUC board.

But in his letter to Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider on Oct. 6, the governor said, "It is with deep regret to inform you that I am withdrawing his appointment at this time."

Forty-five days had lapsed since the governor submitted the nomination to the Senate.

Rabauliman declined to comment.

After resigning as Commerce secretary in April, he was appointed by the governor to be the department’s economic development director.

Rabauliman became acting Commerce secretary in September 2014 and his nomination as department head was confirmed by the Senate in March 2015.
