She said the Friends of CWs rely on donations from community members.
“At first, individuals were helping us by donating canned goods for people in need,” Holl said. In the past few months, many community organizations and businesses have also expressed their intention to help.
On Saturday, the Friends of CWs handed out 138 care packages at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse.
Each package consisted of rice, canned goods, noodles, fruits and eggs.
Holl said one of the main sponsors of Saturday’s distribution was Masako Ono, wife of the Japanese consul to Saipan, Kazuhiko Ono.

Mrs. Ono also joined the volunteers in distributing packages to the workers.
“She was introduced to me by Northern Marianas Technical Institute chief executive officer Agnes M. McPhetres,” Holl said. “Mrs. Ono was looking for community partners who perform charity work.”
Holl thanked Mrs. Ono and the other sponsors for their generosity.
She said the Friends of CWs’ goal is to help workers who are ineligible for the federal government’s Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
The Friends of CWs are now planning to distribute more care packages this month, Holl said.
