(NYMWPS) — The National Youth Movement for  the West Philippine Sea strongly denounces the appearance and installation of “Run, Sara, Run” signs and posters on Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan, in the central Philippines.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is the daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte who is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election in next year’s presidential election.

This premature campaigning is in violation of Philippine election laws, said Marianas-based Celia Lamkin, MD, global chair and founder of the National Youth Movement for the West Philippine Sea

“This blatant and unconscionable violation of the law taints the integrity of the island and its population, and shows lack of respect to the other countries still contesting our sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea,” she added.

“The NYMWPS strongly exhorts the mayor of Kalayaan, Palawan, the Honorable Roberto M. del Mundo, to act accordingly and to remove such offending posters and to exercise his powers and responsibilities to see to it that such actions, which can sully the integrity and reputation of the island and its population, are never ever repeated.”

Further, the NYMWPS “also exhorts Mayor del Mundo to duly perform his duty and mandate to condemn in the strongest possible manner the Chinese maritime militia on the recent installation and maintenance of illegal maritime structures and facilities in the Julian Felipe Reef also known as  Whitson Reef, the largest reef at the northeast extreme limit of the Union Banks in the Spratly Islands of the West Philippine Sea,  in violation of international and Philippine laws and in extreme contempt of Philippine sovereignty. We exhort the mayor to do his duty and prioritize these important issues as well as heed our advocacy for clean and good governance in Kalayaan, most especially in Pag-asa Island. No to dirty and opportunistic politics! Yes to good governance and the protection of Philippine sovereignty! Yes to the welfare and progress of Pag-asa Island and its people!”
