SERIN Chung topped the Women's Singles 5 division of the 11th Tan Holdings Tennis Classic by outlasting Hyejin Elliot in a three-set battle, 0-6, 6-4, 10-7, on Sunday at the American Memorial Park tennis court.

The rivalry between Chung and Elliot has always been a show stopper and once again, they gave it their all.

Elliot played extremely well in the first set, leaving Chung in the dust 6-0.

But Chung managed to find redemption in the next set as her defensive efforts and aggressive offense kept Elliot at bay.

Elliot fought back but Chung's technical skills could not be denied as she notched  a 6-4 win to force a third and final set.

Both athletes worked harder in the finale, resulting in several tiebreakers, but in the end, there could only be one winner, and when the dust settled, Chung stood tall with a 10-7 victory over Elliot.

Boy's Singles 16

In the Boys Singles 16 championship, it was the girls who vied for the crown with Eliot and Chung playing against each other once again in yet another three-set finale.

Elliot played well with smart placements and strong returns to keep Chung off-balanced and claim the first set, 6-3.

But Chung was unstoppable in the second set and nearly silenced Elliot, 6-2.

Then in the third and final set, Elliot came out swinging to finish off Chung 10-4.

Women's Singles

Also victorious were three other players.

In the Women's Singles 3 division, Gillan Mae Lucero stole the show by thumping Yuko Kumada 6-1, 6-1.

In the Women's Singles 4 division, Irin Chung made her way to the top by vanquishing Hoo Wang 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.

Irin Chung then earned another title — the Girl's Singles 14 — after defeating Hoo Wang again, 7-5, 6-1.
