SUFA handed the Man Amigos their second loss of the season in the Belau Amateur Softball League on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
There were several lead exchanges throughout the game, but SUFA was strong defensively in the first inning with three consecutive outs, allowing no hits.
On offense, SUFA found its rhythm with Calvanni Guerrero and Jerome Delos Santos filling the bases and returning home safely thanks to Audie Maritita and Jude Dickinson who each earned an RBI.
The Man Amigos tried to stop the bleeding with two outs highlighted by shortstop Pete Sablan, but SUFA's Patrick Guerrero managed to slip in a single to bring home Paul Salalila and extend SUFA’s lead 3-0.
Two scoreless innings followed before the Man Amigos broke the silence courtesy of Jeff C's two-run homer.
SUFA then scored three runs at the top of the third inning but the Man Amigos' relentlessness was rewarded with two runs of their own at the bottom-half to remain in contention, 4-6.
Despite the Man Amigos' efforts, SUFA continued to push forward with four more runs at the top of the fifth, thanks to Jude Dickinson and Eric Palacios' two-run homers.
For their part, the Man Amigos turned to offense with guns blazing. A total of 10 runs were made with Manny connecting a three-run home on top of Alvin's RBI double to give their team a 14-10 lead.
But once again, the Man Amigos' hopes were erased in a blink of an eye as SUFA cooked up a rally in the next inning.
SUFA’s Audie Maritita was the X-factor as he plowed through each turn at bat with home runs. His first gathered two RBIs while his second hit recorded a grand slam. He contributed seven of his team’s 13 runs as SUFA took a 23-15 lead.
The Man Amigos tried to keep the fight going but they had no answer as SUFA snuck in one more run before claiming victory, 24-15.
With only two losses each, SUFA and Man Amigos are now in a race for the league title.
