MEET the inspiring female restaurant manager from Triple J Tinian, Dolores Kiyoshi, whose journey from the military to the heart of the service industry is a testament to the boundless potential of women in leadership roles.

A rewarding transition

After dedicating 30 years of her life to serving in the Army, Kiyoshi found herself drawn back to her roots in Tinian, driven by a desire to care for her parents and support her siblings. It was then that an opportunity presented itself – a position at the front desk of the Tinian Western Lodge, owned by Triple J. “My journey to Triple J Tinian is rewarding and a blessing,” she shares. “Triple J is a thriving and successful Corporation that offers locals like me the opportunity to have a career that is enjoyable and rewarding.”

Overcoming challenges with unwavering determination

While acknowledging the unique challenges of being a woman in a leadership role in the restaurant business, particularly her limited prior experience in the industry, this remarkable manager’s determination to learn and grow shone through. Kiyoshi’s unwavering commitment and the recognition of her potential by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, paved the way for her success.

“Mr. and Mrs. Jones recognize my potential to learn and grow,” she explains. “Also, I believe that my 30 years of military service and great family values molded me to be successful in this job.”

Fostering an inclusive and supportive environment

Her approach is rooted in positivity, hard work, and a family-oriented mindset.

“I always think positive for the Team and work hard along with the Team,” Kiyoshi shares. “I love training, coaching, and mentoring my Team. I informed my Team that they are my extended Familia. We are all one Team, One Familia in Triple J Tinian.”

Celebrating achievements and inspiring others

When asked about her proudest achievements, Kiyoshi’s accomplishments resonate with a profound sense of pride and empowerment. “I am proud and honored to say that ‘I am the first female islander to achieve the rank of Command Sergeant Major in the CNMI,'” she beams.

Additionally, her promotion from the front desk to Operations Manager within two years, coupled with a significant salary increase, stands as a testament to her dedication and the recognition of her talents. She added that tshe was also the interim Restaurant Manger for a few months while the Manager was off-island.

Her advice to young women aspiring to become leaders in the hospitality industry is both practical and inspiring: “Finish high school and seek opportunities that are available to you regardless of your gender. Do not wait for it. If the opportunity is available, apply for it regardless of the salary. We all have to start at minimum wage. Work hard and show what you can bring to the Team. Your hard work will be recognized and rewarded.”
