Norman Rasiang and Aofia Tuiolosega tried Surf Club’s burgers.
WHEN it comes to keeping Saipan’s rich artistic traditions alive, couple Aofia Tuiolosega and Norman Rasiang are certified experts. Aofia has been slaying it as a cultural dancer pretty much since she could walk, performing at the island’s iconic Flame Tree Festival every single year without fail. Norman lends his talents by crafting affordable local artistries like necklaces and mwar that they hustle to tourists and locals alike. Together, they’re spreading Saipan’s vibrant culture one fierce dance move and handmade treasure at a time.
The Taga Burger
As Norman admits, “I’ve never tried Surf Club’s burger. He said, his taste buds favor those the likes of Sonic Drive-in from the Classic Sonic Burger to Bacon Cheeseburger to Sonic Signature Slingers.” His fiancée, Aofia stays open to any new flavors, sharing “I like to try everything and am open to trying new things.”
Little did they know, one bite of Surf Club’s iconic Taga Burger would flip their burger worldview upside down. At just $13.56 (regular price is $16.95), it’s an affordable flavor bomb. “We have been innovating our burgers and we try to test it to achieve the local flavors that will appeal to our clientele,” explains young manager Paul Manikad. His mad scientist approach pays off with this unholy-but-tasty topping combination: a fresh quarter-pound beef patty topped with Spam and pineapple! An unlikely duo, but one bite was enough for Norman to declare “I’ve forgotten Sonic’s burgers, and this is now my new top burger — the Taga Burger.”
Bacon Cheddar Burger
As for Surf Club’s take on a classic Bacon Cheeseburger, it effortlessly checked all the boxes. For Memorial Day, Aofia was impressed by the fresh greens included in her plate. Paul added, “Those greens were harvested fresh from Triple J’s own vegetable garden over on Tinian.” The burger itself was a masterclass in simple perfection — a juicy Angus beef patty from Triple J’s herd, crowned with gloriously melty cheese and crispy bacon strips. Aofia’s verdict? “The way the cheese melts on top of the burger was perfect. The bacon was an added treat.”
