2 arrested for stealing 18 cases of luncheon meat

TWO unemployed men were arrested for stealing 18 cases of Black Label luncheon meat from a supermarket in San Antonio.

Chuezton Martin and Joenel Enriquez both appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections for a bail hearing before Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Monday.

Martin, 42, was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of theft, while Enriquez, 23, was charged with one count of burglary, and one count of theft.

Representing the government, Assistant Attorney General Daniel Johnson said burglary carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000, while theft carries a maximum punishment of five years imprisonment with a fine of up to $10,000.

At the hearing, Martin was represented by Assistant Public Defender Charlene Brown, while an attorney will be appointed to represent Enriquez.

Judge Camacho remanded the defendants to the custody of Corrections and ordered them to return to court on June 9 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and on June 16 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.

The judge imposed a $5,000 cash bail on each defendant.

The complaint

According to the complaint, a cashier at K-Supermarket in San Antonio told investigators that two men, later identified as Martin and Enriquez, entered the store and stole 18 cases of Black Label luncheon meat. Each case sold for $90.

The K-Supermarket manager showed investigators an open window leading into the kitchen/butcher room with a pallet beneath a window and a sheet of plexiglass lying next to the pallet.

Investigators also reviewed the store’s surveillance footage and identified the two men unlawfully entering K-Supermarket on three occasions between May 6 and 7, 2025.

In the first incident on May 6 at 11:15 p.m., a man wearing a green garment covering his face, blue underwear, and no shirt or pants was seen carrying four cases of Black Label luncheon meat after entering K-Supermarket.

The second incident occurred on May 7 at 3:30 a.m., when a man with a black garment covering his face, wearing a green jacket, long black pants, and black Nike shoes, entered K-Supermarket through a window. Surveillance footage showed the suspect using a dolly to move seven cases of Black Label luncheon meat to a room on the eastern side of the store.

Surveillance footage from the third incident shows a suspect entering the butcher room from the eastern side of K-Supermarket. The suspect, wearing a red shirt, black shorts, and white Croc-style footwear, was seen carrying two cases of Black Label luncheon meat. Police identified the suspect as Enriquez based on prior encounters.

Informant

An informant told investigators that Martin asked him to be a lookout in the early morning of May 6. The informant saw Martin place a pallet beneath a window on the eastern side of K-Supermarket and use it to climb up. He then heard a thudding sound and saw a 50-pound yellow sack fall from the window onto another yellow sack below. Martin later exited the window carrying a large box, placed both yellow sacks inside it, and loaded the items into a gray Toyota Camry.

The informant said he witnessed Martin retrieving items from nearby bushes and loading them into a white vehicle that had arrived and reversed toward him. According to the informant, Martin told him they had struck the same location again, “hit the jackpot,” and filled a dolly with cases of Spam.

Enriquez, for his part, told investigators that he entered the store the same way Martin did after Martin refused to give him a case of Spam. Enriquez said he found four cases of Black Label luncheon meat in the hallway, took only two, and exited the way he entered.
