I am writing this letter not just because it’s Mother’s Day but, because I want to express my appreciation to my mom. Growing up, I had always felt a stronger connection with my dad. He had fulfilled all my wishes, he bought me everything I wanted, played with me on the weekends, and was generous with my allowance. His presence was synonymous with fun and indulgence.
On the other hand, my mom was the voice of reason and responsibility. She constantly told me to prioritize my studies, eat nutritious meals, avoid excessive spending, and maintain a healthy routine. While Dad’s gestures were immediate sources of joy and directly exuberant, Mom’s guidance was the foundation that shaped my habits and now, my whole life. Now, I’m old enough so I can understand that they put in their greatest efforts to love me.
However, due to my naivety, I didn’t fully understand the deepness of my mom’s love and the wisdom behind her advice. Favor against my dad was more reasonable. His actions were more realistic to a young kid. But as I grew older, I realized that Mom’s quiet sacrifice and constant support have been more helpful. Mom’s teachings about responsibility, discipline, and self care were not always exciting but they were the lessons that paved the way for my future successes.
Her advice on healthy eating habits and financial prudence is still a structure of my life. Her insistence taught me how to manage money, and made me healthier, physically and mentally. Looking back, I see that Dad was indeed a great father, bringing joy and laughter into our lives, however, Mom’s hidden strength and unconditional love were the steady hand that guided me through life’s challenges. Today, I am grateful to both of them for Dad’s playful moments and Mom’s enduring wisdom.
So, Mom, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, I want you to know that my younger self may have loved Dad more, but my appreciation against you have only been deeper over time. Thank you for not only being a mother but also a mentor that guided my whole life Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you, Mom, I love you!
