HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was shocked with a stun gun by an officer with the Guam Police Department before allegedly trying to pull the stun gun from the officer’s hands.
Tensy Nuther was charged with disarming a police officer as a third-degree felony and eluding a police officer and resisting arrest as misdemeanors after a traffic stop in Dededo on Monday morning, a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam stated.
Nuther, 36, was driving a Honda Civic with expired registration tags and an illegible and faded license plate on Route 28 in Dededo when officers attempted to effectuate a traffic stop. Nuther, however, refused and continued to drive before disobeying a stop sign and making a left turn, according to the complaint.
Nuther eventually came to a stop on Chandalaria Street in Dededo when officers told Nuther to show his hands. Nuther refused and continued to drive before making another stop and stepping out of the car.
Nuther allegedly ran to a trail by a residence while holding a knife when an officer caught up with him and ordered Nuther to drop the knife.
According to the complaint, Nuther refused to drop the knife, which led two officers to use their stun guns.
“The report indicates that the Tasers had little to no effect on the defendant. The defendant, on more than one occasion, removed the copper wires that had been deployed by the Tasers,” the complaint stated.
Nuther then allegedly grabbed one of the officer’s stun guns with a strong grip and tried to pull the stun gun from the officer’s hands. The officer, however, was able to pull the stun gun away, which led Nuther to release his grip on the stun gun, according to the complaint.
Officers subsequently tried to secure Nuther in handcuffs, but Nuther allegedly pulled his left wrist toward the front of his body. Despite the struggle, officers managed to secure Nuther and later confiscated a black knife found on the trail.
According to the complaint, Nuther told officers that he did not have a driver’s license and that he had smoked methamphetamine earlier that morning.
