HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A woman was pronounced dead at the hospital after succumbing to injuries from a two-car crash in Asan Thursday night.
Guam Fire Department units responded to the crash at around 6:45 p.m., which occurred along Marine Corps Drive in Asan by the Guam Veterans Affairs Office. A total of five individuals were hospitalized.
Shortly after 7 p.m., the Guam Police Department’s Highway Patrol Division launched an investigation into the crash.
According to GPD acting spokesperson Sgt. Paul Tapao, preliminary reports suggested two vehicles driving in opposite directions collided after one encroached into the oncoming lane.
“Preliminary reports suggest that a Hyundai Tucson was traveling north on the inner lane on Route 1 Marine Corps Drive in Asan when a Scion TC, traveling on the opposite southbound lane, encroached onto the northbound lane and collided with the Hyundai Tucson,” Tapao stated in a press release Friday.
Of the five individuals, three were in the Tucson and were transported to Guam Memorial Hospital. The other two were occupants of the Scion TC and were transported to U.S. Naval Hospital Guam, “with CPR performed on a female adult while en route to the hospital,” Tapao stated in the release.
“The woman had later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by attending physicians from Naval Guam Hospital,” Tapao added.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
