In the Marianas, the holiday season is marked by gatherings to celebrate Christmas, New Year’s Eve, the Feast of Three Kings, and the spirit of family. When we get together locally, we love to fill our fiesta tables with delicious island treats.
But what if you want to stick to your 2024 diet and fitness goals amidst all the feasting? The Marianas Variety spoke with personal trainer Kseniia Galadzhii about how to balance enjoying holiday parties while still being mindful of your health. She offers five practical tips:
- Don’t starve yourself beforehand. Eat light, nutrient-dense foods like turkey, whole grains and veggies to curb hunger. Arriving overly hungry makes it harder to make healthy choices.
- Use portion control. Start with a big salad to feel partially full, then add moderate protein and sides. Finish with just a taste of rich pasta or desserts.
- Bring a healthy dish to share like shrimp cocktail, fruit platter or veggie tray. Make sure there are good options for you!
- Limit alcoholic drinks, alternating with water to curb calories and stay hydrated. The calories in alcohol add up fast.
- Stay active at the party to keep burning calories. Socialize and mingle instead of staying sedentary.
The holidays are meant for celebrating and connecting with loved ones over delicious food. With some mindful strategies, you can strike that balance of enjoying special treats without overindulging or derailing your 2024 goals.
