8 GDOE 2025 Teacher of the Year semifinalists selected

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Eight Guam Department of Education Teachers have made it to the semifinals for the 2025 Teacher of the Year, the department announced in a press release.

They are:

  • Madrid Borja – L.P. Untalan Middle School
  • Sharon May Cabrera – Tamuning Elementary School
  • Marie Juvy Carino- L.P. Untalan Middle School
  • Mary D.J. Cruz – Adacao Elementary School
  • James Lester Santiago – Upi Elementary School
  • Yoo Kyung Shin – Simon Sanchez High School
  • Charity Catunao Story – Adacao Elementary School
  • Charina Anne Valencia – FB Leon Guerrero Middle School

“These dedicated educators have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their students and communities. Let’s celebrate their passion and hard work,” the Guam Department of Education said in the release.

The eight semifinalists will move on to the interview phase of the selection process, narrowing the group down to six finalists. The final phase includes classroom observation conducted by judges, who are former Guam Teacher of the Year representatives, according to GDOE.

The finalist with the highest overall number of points will be selected to represent Guam in the 2025 National Teacher of the Year Program.
