Fire destroys wood-tin house in CK

A FIRE that broke out around noon on Friday incinerated a wood-and-tin house in Chalan Kanoa.

On May 23 at 12:12 p.m., the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services received multiple calls reporting heavy black smoke behind Terry’s Snack Bar.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a single-story house fully engulfed in flames. They noted that the fire had the potential to spread due to the close proximity of nearby buildings.

By 1:35 p.m., firefighters had the main fire under control and began a mop-up operation to ensure all remaining flames were fully extinguished.

For its part, the Department of Public Safety advised the public to avoid the location and take alternate routes.

DFEMS Public Information Officer Robert Mojica, in a statement, said arson investigators conducted an on-scene assessment of the cause of the fire.

“At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation and will be determined at a later date by arson investigators,” Mojica said.

Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop, for his part, said: “Earlier, one individual was unaccounted for but it was later learned that he was at work.”
