Club president Marcia Ayuyu and vice president Sean Ficke turned over the donation to Chalan Kanoa Bishop Ryan Jimenez on Tuesday.

Jimenez said Tinian’s was the most damaged by Yutu among the churches under the diocese.

“Rebuilding the Tinian church is a long process,” he said, adding that it starts with the social hall, which was the site of a Catholic school.

Once rebuilt, the social hall will serve as a temporary place of worship for the parish and a venue for community events, the bishop said.

Jimenez said Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan, the Friends of San Jose Church, and other community members are working hard to start rebuilding the social hall.

Rebuilding the church will take awhile, he said, adding that they continue to seek donations for the project.

“So really, from the bottom of my heart, I say thank you all for your generous contribution,” the bishop told the Rotarians.
