HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — United Airlines flight attendants and their supporters once again took to the front of the A.B. Won Pat International Airport on Thursday in what is becoming a more frequent demonstration for better working conditions.
“It’s going to be ongoing until we get the contract that we deserve,” Rsei Isim, the United Airlines Association of Flight Attendants Council 65 Guam president, said.
“We are scheduling these periodically to let management know that we need them to be serious about contract negotiations and come to the table to give us a contract that we deserve,” Isim added.
It has been two years since contract negotiations began with the airline, according to Isim. The union representing the flight attendants filed for federal mediation on Dec. 5, and is now awaiting a response from the National Mediation Board.
“That is the next step for us moving forward,” Isim said. “Federal mediation is where the federal board will come in and oversee the negotiations because the company has been dragging their feet in coming to the table and providing a good contract for our members.”
Friday’s demonstration on Guam was part of a nationwide day of action to demand that management at United negotiate a contract with the flight attendants.
“We want to let the public know we’re here. We want your support, we need your support, we thank you for your support for us to demand United give us a fair contract that’s deserving of our flight attendants,” Isim said.
Flight attendants for United Airlines are joined by United pilots and other supporters as they demonstrate in front of the A.B. Won Pat International Airport on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023.
