Saipan BC takes lead in Traders tourney

SBC — which has yet to complete its games against Shirley’s Badminton Club — won seven sets from them this weekend. Shirley’s BC now sits in fourth place at 34 sets, with Berks Blazers BC behind at 33.

On Sunday, Saipan BC’s Gary Bandoja and Heo In Souk survived Golden Racquet BC’s Edwin Maratas and Babes Cielo in a three-set match (12-21, 21-13, 21-18) while Oh Imbog defeated Alvin Alvarez, 21-10, 21-13. Imbog and class A player Hannah Choi later crushed GRBC’s Anna Omori and Maratas, 21-7, 21-12.

Saipan BC’s Kim Boranah and Joel Ortega collapsed in three sets (17-21, 21-19, 17-21) against Kanata Omori and Cris Obaldo. Toshiko Obata also fell to Marylyn Montano, 19-21, 20-22 in a women’s singles game.

Saipan BC won three of its four games against Shirley’s, with Sang Mi Lee and Boranah beating Roma Barlao and Windy Fernandez, 21-13, 21-13 in their second and third sets. Obata and In Souk also conquered Barlao and Elma Labuson, 21-14, 22-20.

Fernandez came back for a second game with teammate Jexler to edge Kang Yun Moon and Lee (21-17, 16-21, 21-15).

The Golden Racquet Badminton Club rallied for second place with 49 sets after three rounds this weekend. They have yet to face the Berks Blazers BC. Taga BC ranks third with 40 sets.

Meanwhile, Taga’s Angie Ito cruised past Lucille Lampera, 21-10, 21-16 for her second singles win. Andrew Galvez outran Ferdie Arago in three sets (12-21, 21-15, 21-18) while Rodwealth Espana and Merlie Tolentino bested Berks Blazers’ Lani     Bartolome and Wowie Abuel (21-11, 21-19).

Games continue on Friday, November 25.
