SAIPAN Southern High School shut down Marianas High School’s junior varsity team, 6-0, in a boys high school division game of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League SY23-24 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Thursday last week.

SSHS was superior in skill and speed, and it showed early in the opening half as Mario Claridades found the back of the net after just one minute of play to grasp the lead, 1-0. Although MHS JV managed to adjust their defensive strategy accordingly throughout the remaining minutes, they remained scoreless going into halftime.

In the second half, SSHS displayed complete control of the match and went for the kill with a flurry of goals.

Mark Patubo ignited the offensive run with a goal scored at the 36th minute mark while Claridades followed up with his second contribution three minutes later. Teammate Eamon Tang then scored his first goal at the 41st minute mark to extend the deficit.

MHS JV scrambled to protect their end of the field, but they could not stop the onslaught.

Toward the end of the match SSHS’ Heman Addy delivered a pair of daggering goals to add the icing on the cake, 6-0.
