MHS runners clinch 18U titles in cross country

MHS’ Beo Ngirongor stole the boys category’s top spot at 33:59 seconds, beating Michael Mancao (33:59.5) by a split-second at the finish line.

Previous winner Charles Bautista trailed Ngirongor at 34 minutes.

MHS completed the boys’ first seven slots, with Saipan International School’s Angelo Jones placing eighth at 41 minutes.

Marianas High’s Cris Obaldo retained the girls 18U title with 43:57, followed by Clarisse Cayabyab (48:46) and third-ranked Lourdes Seman (51:17).

Saipan Community School’s Kui Lee and Hopwood Junior High School’s Mikayla Lopez posted 20:37 and 19:14, respectively to rule the boys and girls 14U divisions. Carmelino Garcia (20:37) and Rumina Litulumar (25:39) rallied behind Lee and Lopez for second place.

In the 12U category, SCS’ Elnathan Wong led the boys with 17 minutes and 43 seconds. Fellow Tsunamis Nael Lim (19:26) and Kento Akimaru (19:34) drew second and third place followed by Kagman Elementary School’s Kevin Kabiriel (21:42).

In the girls division, SCS’ Shirley Qian timed in at 25 minutes and 11 seconds to beat Hopwood’s Dohyen Kwon (28:03).

Garapan Elementary School’s Joshalyn Flores once again clinched the girls 10U title with 9:13.

Logan Mister of Whispering Palms School posted seven minutes to rule the boys 10U division. Saipan Community’s Ken Song was less than a minute behind with 7:48 while Haruya Eda ranked third at 7:59.

Kagman’s Koen Kabiriel topped an all-male pool in the 8U division with eight minutes and four seconds. Not far behind, Jason Sablan struck second place with 8:04.5 while Jon Sablan finished third at 8:05.

The event marked the third leg of the series, with the championships set for a later date.
