2 felons facing federal charges for possession of guns, ammo

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Two felons are facing federal charges related to possessing a firearm and ammunition.

On Wednesday in separate cases in the District Court of Guam, Michael Gregory Rosal Jr. and Albert Benavente Taimanglo were indicted on charges of felony possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Rosal’s charges stem from allegedly possessing a firearm on April 11, 2020. According to the indictment, Rosal had a Beretta 9mm pistol with approximately 14 rounds of ammunition, all of which had allegedly been shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.

As for Taimanglo, he was accused of possession of a Stevens-Savage Arms Inc. 20-gauge shotgun with two 20-gauge shotgun cartridges on Oct. 18, 2023, according to court documents.

Records

While the federal court indictments did not indicate what Rosal and Taimanglo were convicted of, The Guam Daily Post files have extensive criminal records.

In December 2011 and March 2012, Rosal was accused of assaulting two men.

In December 2018, Rosal was accused of raping a 23-year-old woman known to him. At the time of his charging, he was on parole for the 2012 assault charges and had been released from prison after serving seven years in prison.

In 2020, Rosal and three other men were charged in connection to a drug raid in a Mongmong home, which Rosal pleaded guilty to and was spared prison time. Before taking the plea deal in the case, Rosal was charged with theft by receiving as a second-degree felony along with a notice of commission of a felony while on felony release and vehicle identification as a misdemeanor.

Taimanglo had also spent time in prison after he was charged in federal court for unlawfully entering Andersen Air Force Base on May 2, 2019, and attempting to steal copper wire and other metals from the base.

More recently, Taimanglo was indicted in District Court after he was accused of stealing copper cabling from the U.S. Naval Communication Station on Jan. 27, 2019.
